CORRUPTION GROWS UNDER SHADOW OF POLITICIANS

Corruption grows under shadow of politicians

 People losing faith in democracy

The arrest of former Haryana Chief Minister, Om Parkash Chautala and 51 others convicted by a special CBI court on Wednesday for illegal recruitment of 3206 junior basic teachers in the state, is important because in corruption cases, the arrest of senior politicians have been seen in the past also but it is rare that the charges against them are proved in the court of law.

Chautala his son along with 51 others including two IAS officers have been found guilty in the special court of CBI in Delhi and they have been sent to jail.  The case relates to 1999-2000, say after about 13 years back, they have been convicted on account of serious charges of cheating and embezzlement, in case of recruitment of junior teachers as the recruitment and promotion of teachers in the state has always been in the clutches of politicians.  It looks as if the people from a chief minister’s region suddenly become intelligent the moment he comes to power.
The same has happened in this scam as well. In the final list brought out by Chautala, a majority of those who figured on it were from Narwana in Jind District, considering being for the former CM’s stronghold.

On the other hand, the teachers are scared.  They fear they might be falsely implicated in the case and lose job.
Ironically, it is possible that Chautala and his supporters might call it a political move and naturally they have right to approach the higher courts but till such time whatever cases of corruption exposed in the cases of senior politicians, speaks about the unlimited lust for money and self interest.
There had been such charges during the tenure of Chauata in the Assembly elections and perhaps this the main reason for losing the elections by his party for the two consecutive terms.  In the coming elections too, Chautala will be facing certain problems despite the fact that people have complaints and grievances against the existing ruling Congress government.

In fact, the people have lost faith in the greedy politicians and corruption bureaucrats for any transparency and honesty in the government recruitments.  In the past also the politicians used to get appointment some persons with their personal influence and recommendations but their intention was that there is no big scam, like the existing one.
Partiality was also heard in the name of caste or religion of the politician but corruption at the level of chief minister or minister in the recruitment of teachers, police constables were not seen.
This is the reason that the corruption in the country has increased and in the past we have seen agitations and campaign started by Anna Hazare at Jantar Mantar and even Om Parkash Chautala has gone to show his support but when he was stopped to share the dais.

The result of excessive corruption and mess is that the standard of government services is going down day by day because the persons who have got the job after paying the handsome amount under the table, he will not think to serve honestly but will try to recover the given amount with interest.
In case we link this incident of Chautala with the present conviction by the court, then corruption is a big problem for the common man and it is only a political tool for such politicians.  It is also a coincidence that the Prime Minister of our neighboring country Pakistan , Raja Parvej Ashraf has been ordered to be arrested on corruption charges by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

It may be India or Pakistan , the democratic expectations have increased of a common man and the people want transparency and accountability from the politicians but on the other hand the politicians are busy in minting money, grabbing power and independent sovereignty.  In Pakistan , there is no permanent democracy and such incidents create constitutions problems and there is no such problem because of stable democracy.   But in case there is no immediate check on the corruption in India , So the democracy could be in danger.
